THE FEELIES

The Comeback

In early 2008, rumors began to spread that The Feelies might reunite. The idea had been simmering for a while. After a Yung Wu reunion in 2001 and Glenn’s solo work, which included contributions from other Feelies members, Glenn and Bill reconnected, and when Thurston Moore of Sonic Youth invited them to open a July 4th show in New York, the timing finally felt right.

On June 30, 2008, The Feelies returned to Maxwell’s in Hoboken, their spiritual home, for their first live performance in seventeen years.

2008 - 2017

The sold-out reunion featured the classic lineup of Glenn, Bill, Brenda, Stan and Dave, and it immediately felt as if no time had passed.

From then on, The Feelies began playing live a few times a year, mostly around New York and New Jersey but also in Boston, Washington, Philadelphia and Chicago. Their setlists mixed songs from every era with the occasional cover, and before long, new original material started appearing. Rumors of a new album began to circulate, and soon enough, they delivered.

That spark carried over into the studio. In 2011, the band released Here Before, their first album in two decades, a warm and quietly confident return that captured both the drive of Crazy Rhythms and the reflective calm of The Good Earth. With its interlocking guitars, subtle grooves, and thoughtful lyrics, it sounded like old friends rediscovering their rhythm.

Six years later, in 2017, they followed with In Between, recorded mostly at Glenn’s home studio in Haledon, New Jersey. More introspective and spacious, the album finds the band at ease with themselves: understated, melodic, and still full of that hypnotic pulse that has always been uniquely theirs.
